How to Survive the Middle Seat

Ah, the dreaded middle seat. Every frequent flyer’s worst nightmare. But it doesn’t have to be. While we can’t guarantee that sitting in the middle seat will ever be a pleasure, here are three tips that will definitely help you survive the experience.

Board early and claim some space. The last thing you want when sitting in a middle seat is to board last and find that both armrests, not to mention a sizeable portion of the legroom, is already spoken for. Try your best to be the first on the plane from your section, and make sure you’ve got enough arm and leg room to be comfortable.

Limit your luggage and store your carry-on in the overhead bin. Even if you pack light, space comes at a premium when it comes to airplane seating, and this is especially true of the middle seat. Do your best to pack light, and make sure to only have the bare essentials on you so you can store everything else in the overhead bin and make sure you have yourself some much needed space.

Bring a good book, and something to listen to. Distraction is one of the best ways to make any flight “fly” by, middle seat or otherwise. With that in mind it’s always best to bring some headphones and something you love to listen to, not to mention a great book or ebook reader so you can catch up on your reading list!

Reasons to Read While Traveling

Everyone loves to get away and explore new destinations, but before planning and packing up all that precious space in your suitcase, make sure you’ve left some room for something to read. Why? You ask? Here are three reasons to read while you’re traveling.

Delays Happen. It happens to everyone at one point or another, your flight gets delayed, or even cancelled, your train gets stuck on the track, or maybe it’s just plain old traffic. Whatever the reason, unexpected delays are just a fact of travel, and it’s always best to have something ready to read so that the time just blows right by.

Don’t forget the down time. Traveling come sometimes feel like one big rush! So many places to go and things to see! But to make sure you won’t need a vacation from your vacation, a good bet would be to schedule some downtime, preferably lounging on a beach or curled up on a couch with something great to read!

Because you love reading anyway! Travel doesn’t have to mean taking time away from the things you love. If you love to read, and we’re sure all of you do, you can make the trip even more memorable and enjoyable by making sure you’ve always got something great to read at hand. Travel Tips: How to See a Lot for a Little

We all love to travel: To broaden our horizons and discover new worlds we never knew existed, but for many of us the cost can be quite prohibitive. If, however, you’re willing to be creative, there are still some sure-fire ways to do it. Here are two ways to see a whole lot for just a little.

Long distance train rides. Taking the train is a great way to see some scenery that you may have never been exposed to otherwise. Far more comfortable than a cramped bus, the train offers a slower pace of travel for a rather unique experience. Cross-country train rides take you on long journeys through amazing landscapes for less than the cost of plane tickets and hotel rooms, and some rail companies even offer hop-on/hop-off packages to explore some locations in depth.

Camper-vans. Accommodations can certainly be expensive, and many travelers don’t much care for the pools and parks many hotels offer in order to up their prices. For those that don’t mind sacrificing a bit of comfort, camper-vans can be the perfect solutions to travel on the cheap and get to see much more for less. Many companies offer camper-van and RV rentals for those who aren’t looking to buy, and some higher-end models are even as comfortable as hotel rooms!

Strange Facts About North Korea

The secretive nation shares little with the world, and hides much of the world from its people, making it one of the most fascinating countries on the planet. Here are three strange facts about North Korea that you may not have known.

The instrument of the people. The most popular musical instrument in North Korea is the accordion. Unlike, say, a piano, the accordion’s portability makes it easy to be taken outside and played for labourers in the field, cementing its status as an instrument of the people. In fact, teachers were required to play the accordion before being granted their teaching licenses.

Happy New Year, 108! North Korea does not abide by our standard Gregorian calendar, rather, they base their calendar on Kim Il-sung’s year of birth, 1912, known throughout North Korea as Juche 1. By this system, 2019 actually marks Juche 108 in North Korea. Happy new year!

Regular elections. North Korea actually holds regular election every 4 to 5 years, held by the Supreme People’s Assembly, the country’s national legislature and again every 4 years held by the Local People’s Assemblies. Of course, the choice of candidates on the ballot is somewhat limited and approval for the Democratic Front’s candidates is usually unanimous or nearly so. If government statistics are to be believed, the voter turnout is close to 100%.

Audiobooks. Love reading? We all do! But it may not be advisable while driving… Audiobooks to the rescue!
